Nicole Joslin, PMHNP-BC

Psychiatric Medication Management in Apex, NC

You're not falling apart. You're holding it together: work, family, appointments, all of it. And you've been doing it long enough that the exhaustion has started to feel like your baseline.

You don't need someone to rush you through a prescription and send you on your way. You need someone who will take the time.

What Patients Often Find Here

45 Minutes, Not 15

Follow-up visits are 45 minutes. Because understanding how your plan is working takes more than a quick check-in.

Decisions Made Together

You bring your lived experience. I bring clinical expertise. We build a plan that fits your life, not one handed down without explanation.

The Whole Picture, Every Time

Sleep, stress, history, relationships. All of it belongs in the evaluation. Not as afterthoughts. As the starting point.

You're Holding It Together on the Outside. Running on Empty on the Inside.

You answer the emails. You show up. You take care of the people who need you. From the outside, it looks fine. On the inside, you're running at a frequency that never drops. No amount of sleep, or better planning, or just getting through the week seems to change that.

  • You wake up tired even when you slept
  • Your focus is unreliable in ways that are starting to cost you
  • You feel flat or disconnected in ways you can't explain
  • The anxiety doesn't wait for something to worry about. It just runs
  • You've tried explaining this to a provider before and left feeling rushed

You don't have to be in crisis for this to matter. Functioning but exhausted is enough.

I'm Nicole Joslin, and I built this practice around one belief: understanding a patient well enough to actually help them takes more time than the standard psychiatric model allows.

I'm not a 15-minute appointment. I never have been. For 23 years, including 15 in adult primary care before specializing in psychiatry, I've slowed down, asked about the whole picture, and made decisions with my patients rather than for them.

What that looks like in practice:

  • Longer appointments, smaller caseload, so your care stays consistent and attentive

  • Medication explained clearly, adjusted with your input, never the automatic answer

  • Neurodiversity-affirming care for ADHD and brain-based differences, not deficit-focused

I became a PMHNP because I kept watching patients leave primary care appointments with a mental health concern that came up quietly at the end, and nowhere to go with it. This practice is where I go with it.

Psychiatric Care for Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Sleep & OCD in Apex, NC

I work with adults 18 and older who have been managing on willpower for too long and are ready for something that actually fits their life.

  • Anxiety Care

When the nervous system won't settle, no matter what you try. We find what's driving it and build a plan around the cause.

  • Depression & Mood Disorders

When flat, heavy, or disconnected has gone on long enough that you can't remember when it started. We look at the whole picture together.

  • Insomnia & Sleep Problems

Sleep problems are rarely just about sleep. We find out what's actually driving them before reaching for a solution.

  • OCD & Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms

When intrusive thoughts and rituals are consuming time and energy your life can't absorb. Assessment without judgment, medication when appropriate, coordination with therapy.

  • Neurodivergent & ADHD-Focused Care

When the workarounds have stopped working and you're ready to understand how your brain actually works. This is where I put my most focused attention.

You Don't Have to Have It Figured Out Before You Reach Out

Most patients who contact me aren't sure yet whether they need this kind of support. That's actually a good reason to reach out. We can figure it out together.

How Care at Apex Behavioral Health Works

Most patients tell me the hardest part was deciding to reach out. Once you do, the process is simple.

Step 01

Reach Out

Contact the office or use the scheduling link. No referral needed. No diagnosis required to start the conversation.

Step 02

Your First Appointment

90 minutes focused on getting to know you, not just your symptoms, but your story, your stressors, and your goals. I'll explain my thinking as we go, and we'll have an initial plan before you leave.

Step 03

Ongoing Care That Fits Your Life

Follow-up visits are 30–45 minutes. Telehealth is available for eligible patients across North Carolina, which means a follow-up can fit into a lunch break.

The Difference Patients Describe

Patients who've come to Apex Behavioral Health after rushed or dismissive experiences elsewhere often say the same thing: it felt different from the first appointment. Not because the problems were solved, but because they finally felt like someone was actually listening, and they left with a plan they understood.

That's what care that isn't rushed can do.

"I followed NP Nicole Joslin here from her previous practice. I tried so many different providers and not one has made me feel as understood, reassured, and hopeful as Nicole. Some providers that you see exclusively for medicine have you in and out in 5 minutes. With Nicole she always checks on me, listens to how things have been, and gives me a mini therapy session before talking about meds. Being in my late teens/ early twenties it is so scary to find a provider that can converse empathically with younger people, and Nicole has certainly done that! I would recommend this practice tenfold!"

Why I Practice This Way

I became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner because I kept watching patients leave primary care appointments carrying a mental health concern that came up quietly at the end. The system didn't have time for it. I wanted to be the provider who did.

That's why I see fewer patients. That's why first appointments are 90 minutes. That's why every medication decision happens with your input, not before it.

Reaching out can feel like admitting more than you're ready to, especially when you're the person who handles things. It isn't. Many patients find that what shifts first is the quality of the conversations they're finally willing to have. That tends to be where everything else begins to move.

Ready When You Are

Whether you're in Apex, Cary, Holly Springs, Raleigh, or anywhere across North Carolina via telehealth, there's a place here for you. You bring your story. I'll bring the time it takes to hear it.
